What our checks can tell you, where the information comes from and what you should verify yourself.
Use the report as a starting point
Lemoned presents available vehicle information in a clearer format. A free report shows the records returned for the current check. Reopening its link requests current information; it does not preserve the previous result. The report is not a guarantee of a vehicle’s identity, condition, history, roadworthiness or legal status.
Before buying, check the VIN and V5C, inspect and test-drive the vehicle, review its service and repair records and consider an independent mechanical inspection.
Where the information comes from
Free checks currently use live Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) MOT records where a matching record is available. These can include vehicle identity details supplied with the MOT record, test dates, results, recorded mileage, defects, advisories and expiry dates.
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) Vehicle Enquiry Service supplies vehicle and licensing details where returned, including tax status, tax due dates, export status and the latest V5C issue date. Each report identifies which sources responded and which checks were unavailable. A V5C issue date does not establish a keeper change. Paid provenance, write-off, finance, keeper, theft and insurance checks are not currently performed and remain marked as coming soon.
Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. DVLA and DVSA do not endorse Lemoned. Source data can be incomplete or out of date; verify important information with the original source.
Transmission and fuel-economy figures
Where shown in Vehicle details, transmission and official combined MPG come from dated UK VCA or manufacturer catalogue entries, not a live DVLA or DVSA confirmation of the fitted specification. We compare those entries with the returned make, model, manufacture year, engine size, fuel and CO₂ figure, alongside registration-date and source-consistency checks.
These references do not confirm the vehicle’s fitted gearbox, exact version, original market or emissions test basis. Matching the basic details does not prove that the same specification was fitted. Check the actual specification with the manufacturer before relying on it.
MPG uses UK gallons and is an official combined laboratory test figure, not a real-world prediction. Actual fuel consumption depends on the vehicle, its condition and how it is driven.
Coverage is currently limited to selected 2009 and 2011 Toyota iQ, 2014 Vauxhall Astra and pre-July 2015 Toyota Auris Hybrid configurations. This is not a general gearbox or MPG assumption for hybrids. The sources below are not a complete catalogue of every version and do not prove that specifications remained unchanged throughout a year. A figure is shown only when the catalogue entries compatible with the returned identifying details all supply the same value. Missing or conflicting identifying data prevents a match; missing or conflicting specification values are withheld independently.

What the result labels mean
No record found means the report checked the named source and that source returned no matching record. It is not a guarantee that an event never occurred.
Not returned means the source responded but did not include that particular field. Not checked means the source needed for that check is not connected or the check is not included. Coming soon means the feature cannot currently be purchased or relied upon.
Records can change
Government and third-party records can be delayed, corrected or updated after a report is generated. Each report states when its available source was checked. A clear result only means that the relevant source did not return a matching record at that time; it does not prove that an event never happened.
The full-report demo includes a signed reference and verification link for its fictional record. These are not part of the free report. Demo verification checks the signed reference, not the real-world accuracy of the data or a fresh vehicle check.
Privacy and storage
The free service stores private short-link mappings containing encrypted lookup identifiers and expiry information. It does not save full free reports or email addresses in those mappings, which are separate from order records. See the privacy notice for details.
You can explicitly save up to three dated report copies in your browser for 30 days and download a static copy for your own reference. Saved copies are not current checks, certified documents or an account-backed archive. Comparison uses the results at each original check time; missing information is not a positive result or a basis to rank a car as safer. Use a new check and original records before relying on time-sensitive information.
The optional Lemoned Checklist records your own checks, concerns and notes alongside prompts from the available report. It does not verify completed servicing, diagnose faults or certify that a vehicle is safe to buy. Checklist progress is stored separately in this browser and is not included in saved report copies, exports or shared links.
